Spring Swap Yarn

I received my yarn from Joyce Laurie, my swap partner in the spring swap, today. It's my favorite yarn so I should have a problem coming up with a project to make with it.

She also sent an adorable cell phone bag which I love (including the candy!), and The Strand Magazine, which has short stories and interviews by Elizabeth George and Sue Grafton - can't wait to read it.

Thank you Mary Lynn!

Mary Lynn spoiled me more than I deserved. I went for 'spunky' as my mood on the magnet...but I like that I could choose from 8 other moods in the future. The space travel bag is interesting...I had never seen these! The needle tube was something I had been looking at getting myself...Thank you!

Isn't this purse fabulous? I love the little ? made from the buttons...wow! What yarn did you add in with it? The tones are gorgeous.

How did you know I was looking at this specific yarn?! I am Thrilled! I'm baking a wedding cake right now, which gives me a perfect time to be reading this book while the cakes are baking.

Thank you Mary Lynn! You are the best!

My Apron from Deb Brown and our mystery Yarn swap.
Okay, admittedly the pictures aren't great. It was hard to fit the whole thing in the picture, BUT, the apron itself is adorable. Thanks again Deb. I wore it yesterday. It's great and I love it.

Spring Mystery Swap

Wow! Got a great package from Stephanie! She made be a beautiful pair of fingerless mitts! :-) She also sent Harry and David chocolates - flavored raspberries; monogram note cards, and a book by another of my favorite authors (Alexander McCall Smith) called the Sunday Philosophy Club. I've read several of his books from another series (The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency), but none of the Isabel Dalhousie mysteries. Can't wait to read this one. Thanks, Steph!!!!! GREAT JOB. :-)

Spring Mystery Swap Package Arrived

Look what Cindi sent me! Isn't this just the stuff? There are books, yummies (Earl Gray and lavender blended tea, good scents and a scarf she made me from the yarn I exchanged with her. Neat don't you think. Thank you Cindi for everyting, expecially the scarf. I know you had a hrd time finding a project for the yarn I sent you, it was a challenage and you passed.

Thank you Jane for putting the swap together and following it thoughout to make it a success. Now I will concentrate on the Bottle Swap, it's gonna be a fun one too.

Spring Mystery Swap Package 2

I received my package from Jane the other day. I hadn't had a chance to post it.

She themed my package to my "Oasis" we put up in the backyard. With the yarn I sent her she made me some coaster's to go around the pretty glasses she sent me. Each one is a different design. Which can be filled with some Raspberry tea. A parrot wind sock and a wind chime to put out by the gazebo. A some bubbles to blow!

She knitted a beautiful bag for me. She knows my weakness. She made it from Noro yarn she had in her stash. Isn't it gorgeous? She also gave me some Sugar & Cream that I can use to crochet around the flip flops above. And she even sent along a book with patterns to do so, and some crochet magazines. She also sent 2 books I haven't read yet. I have seen this author but never had a chance to try him out.

Hopefully, when all the wind gusts die down we can put the gazebo back up. We had to take it down about 3 weeks ago and haven't been able to get it back up. With the fires just down the road, the smoke is so bad you can't sit outside. So until then I will have some items ready to go when we put up the gazebo. (Which will have to be after "Andrea")

Thanks Jane!!!

My Spring Swap Package Arrived

I received my swap package today from Patty today and I love it! I really didn't give her that much to work with - I followed the rules and sent her just one small skein of fingering weight alpaca yarn in a pretty shade of blue/green, that I loved, but didn't know what to do with. I can't believe what she did with it!!

She made me this beautiful crocheted collar, which I really love, a pretty smelling sachet, and a cute bookmark.

She also sent this beautiful crocheted doily - she does such beautiful work! There is no way I could ever make anything like this!

The books she included were Rumble on the Bayou by Jana DeLeon, and (I laughed when I saw this one) Murder Can Depress Your Dachshund. I think Marielle (her doxie) must have put that one in the package. There was also some yummy candy and chocolate, which I managed to get a picture of before sampling.
Thank you so much Patty - this was a great package - I love everything!

My Spring Swap Gift Arrived From Mary!

Hello Everyone! After a very stressful day yesterday I came home to a welcoming package sitting at my garage door. It was from Mary, my spring swap partner. Inside were some of the neatest gifts. The best of all was the shawl that she knitted for me. Now, you have to know that we cheated a little, just a little. We didn't send just one skein of yarn to each other, we sent roughly about 900 to 1000 yards of yarn to each other with big plans in mind for our projects. Then I get an email from Mary asking me if I really wanted something knitted from the yarn I sent her or would I mind having something that she already had started that she was knitting from her own hand spun shetland lamb yarn. What do you think my answer was? Yep you guessed it, I told her of course go ahead with what she already had started. And you can see by the photo, that shawl is absolutely beautiful! When she sent me her yarn, she sent the book, a calendar and a knitting magazine. Then with the shawl I got a manicure set, a sewing kit, and angel, that is not in the photo because she is already sitting on my desk at work, some foot exfoliating cream and some really cool stitch markers. Boy did I rack up! Mary is so awesome of a knitter. I took the shawl to work and had to keep retreiving it from different people and putting back in the box under my desk. It seemed to grow feet and walk all over the office....lol. Everyone loved the softness and the color is perfect, it is a soft brown with a tad bit of lighter beige here and there. The lacey pattern is so nice and I could just see me trying to knit it, I would have the holes twice as big as they should be and not even.

Thanks Mary for a wonderful gift. I am still working on hers. I keep changing my mind but still have plenty of time and am having fun collecting all the goodies to go with the knitted items she will get. The books are already picked out too!

Thanks also to Jane for coming up with this swap, we'll have to do it again next spring!

Spring Mystery Swap Package

Just to let you know I finish playing with the yarn Jane sent and packed up her surprise and mailed it her way. You'll have to get the pictures of the finished product from Jane. I forgot to take pictures!!!

Spring Mystery Swap

About a week or so ago, I received some lovely blue handspun from Stephanie. If I can ever get the group's photo page or blogspot to come up, I'll post a pic. I know what book I am going to send her - it's by my favorite author. It's not necessarily my favorite book, but it's definitely the eeriest by this author, and it includes quite a bit of knitting in the story line. I just re-read my copy to get inspiration and finally decided on a project. :-) The knitting character in the book sells items in a boutique and the project I found is a boutique-y kind of item. I've combined 2 different texture yarns in the same color family to enhance the boutique-iness.Is this enough of a teaser??? LOL

The package from Dobarah

The package came from Dobarah today. It included:
100g of 100%wool in an absolute wonderful shade of jade (the pic does not do it justice) . . . thoughts of what can be done are flitting across my brain.
A wonderfully soft knitted cloth.
A pedicure set (Dobarah must have been listening in on my friends and my conversation this past Sunday about the poor state of our feet!).
And, even though it is 10:00 a.m., some delicious root beer float candy. This stuff is great. The root beer flavoring is really good and then all of a sudden POP you get a cream filling mixing in with the root beer flavoring. Really cool.

Thanks Dobarah . . . I can hardly wait to get out my One Skein book to see what I can do for you!

Mary Lynn also included yummy candies, a teal storage bag (I love it!), and the neatest book I have seen...Thank you! Now I just have to get my camera back from my kids...and hope there is still a working battery in it!

Spring Mystery Swap

After three tries I think I have finally made my final decision on what to knit with the yarn Patty sent me for the spring swap. Here is a little teaser - can you guess what it is?

Spring Mystery Swap

First of all - Sorry! I thought I was posting to my own blog (see below) about the snow - oh well - hope you don't mind a little off topic snow LOL.

I received my yarn today for the spring mystery swap from Patty. She actually sent two skeins of a beautiful Artyarns Supermerino handpainted yarn. Patty also is so kind! She included some goodies. Chocolate (she knows I'm a chocoholic) a cute little lamb Pez dispenser (I'm afraid my 7-year old granddaughter is going to claim that!), an Egypt key chain - a reminder of our January book, which took place in Egypt, and a beautiful washcloth in the colors of Easter Eggs. Now - what to make for her? I spent part of my 'snow day' looking through my knitting books and magazines trying to decide what to make. Any ideas? it's superwash - so I can't felt it. It's a worsted weight and each skein is 104 yards. I have a couple of ideas, but would love to hear some of yours! She received my yarn today too - a fingering weight alpaca yarn in a beautiful aqua color that I had not idea what to do with. I can't wait to see what she comes up with. She crochets - so I'm hoping for something crocheted.

And by the way - a little more OT - It was a great game - Dice K rocks and the Red Socks won! Only 160 more games to go - but I promise I'll keep it on my own blog from now on!

Spring Mystery Swap

It's almost spring! Ready for a swap? This is a fun swap that won't require a lot of time or money. Here's how it will work:
Sign-ups begin now and end on the first day of Spring, March 21.
You will be assigned a pal - it won't be a secret pal, you will be swapping with each other. The mystery comes from what you will be swapping!
You know that one skein of yarn you have in your stash (or on the shelf of your favorite LYS) that you love, but don't know what to do with? You will be sending it to your pal - and she will knit or crochet something with it and mail it back to you. In the meantime, she will be sending you that special skein of yarn that she has, and you will knit or crochet something for her and mail it back. And, since this is a reading and knitting group, you will be sending a book back with the finished project.
The Rules:
Sign-ups begin now and end March 21. To sign up, send an e-mail to me at grammieknits@yahoo.com with your name and address, blog address (if you have one) and whether or not you are willing to send overseas.
Once you receive your pals name, you need to contact each other and get to know each other a little bit. Remember the fun part of any exchange is getting to know your partner. Since this is not a secret exchange, getting to know each other will be that much easier. The only secret will be what kind of yarn you are mailing - and what you will be making with the yarn you receive. That will remain a mystery!
Deadline for mailing your skein of yarn to your pal is April 15 (right along with your income tax return!)
Finished projects along with a book (it would be fun, but not absolutely necessary, for the book to somehow relate to the project) should be mailed back to your partner no later than May 30. That should give you plenty of time to come up with a project.
When you receive your yarn back - made up into a wonderful something - post a picture on the blog!
That's it! Sign-ups begin now!
