Are you ready for another swap? Here's how the Trick or Treat Swap goes -

You will be sending your pal:

1. A book with a Halloween theme (this doesn't have to be specifically about Halloween - any scary theme will do. Witches, ghosts, monsters, vampires, villains - you get the picture!
2. A skein of yarn, enough for a one skein project, in fall colors.
3. A pattern for something to make with the yarn. (this could be tricky!)
4. A trick and a treat!


Sign-ups begin today and end Friday, the 25th. You will receive your pal's name by Sept. 30. Packages should be mailed out by October 21 so they will get there in time for Halloween.

Trick or Treat Swap

I received a great Trick or Treat Swap from Lilli in Kansas. First I had to get the approval of the parcel police.



Once I got past them, I was able to get to my goodies.



Four balls of yarn no less and 2 patterns to go with them. A witch and a candy corn illusion which I'm looking forward to making as I have not tried an illusion pattern. Some scary books, although the husband has reassured me that the Stephen King will be OK. Some Halloween decorations and some candy which I have included in the photo before it gets demolished.

Trick or Treat Swap

On Tuesday I got my WhoDuKnit Trick or Treat package from Patty, who did a great job with the cute wrapping thing.
(I fear that my wrapping jobs may leave something to be desired some days!)

 

She sent treats that included chocolates, warm and fuzzy socks, Halloween music, and some autumn candles.

 

Of course there was yarn and books as well, since this is an online Knit and Read group! Three great sounding books, at least one of which Hubband will probably read when he is done with his latest Terry Pratchett. There is some really pretty Peaches and Cream dishcloth cotton with a pattern I haven't seen before, and some great looking fall colored sock yarn with a pattern as well.
Thank you Patty! This was a great treat and I am looking forward to making the dishcloth as soon as my shawl is done (which means it will be going on our trip tomorrow just in case).

 

WHODUKNIT HALLOWEEN SWAP RECEIVED

YUP my Whoduknit Halloween Swap package arrived from Maureen who lives in Calgary. What did I receive? I got a lovely skein of Patons Classic Wool in rich red tweed which looks more rust colored. It is a very lovely color and this photo just doesn't do it justice.
I also received a full pound of Red Heart Orange Acrylic yarn. I guess this the trick Maureen sent me since I am not a fan of orange. Orange just doesn't look good on me. I can wear salmon if it has a lot of pink in it. I am not crazy about knitting with this color even when I have to for a swap but I do if I must. See how large a skein it is. Solara weighs in at about 13 pounds.
I received four wonderful books I look forward to reading. AND no Maureen I certainly don't mind that you sent USED books. I send USED books also. AND in this group sending used books is perfectly acceptable. I pass a lot of books I read on. In case you can't read the titles they are.
1. Beware the Mummy's Curse The Jewel of Seven Stars by Bram Stoker
2. Ten Great Mysteries by Edgar Allan Poe There are many timeless short stores in this book I am sure I have read these many many many years ago but these are the kind of great short stories that can be read over and over again.
3. The Turn of the Screw and Other Stories by Henry James
4. Wordsworth Classics M.R. James Collected Ghost Stories
I also received a lovely pattern for a cabled Beret. Check out the cabled design on it. It can be found on Ravelry.

Last BUT not least I received "EYEBALLS". Isn't it funny how some photos can come out really great and others don't. They are actually candies or were candies since they have all been eaten BUT I have absolutely perfect vision now.
AND my package is on its way to someone in the group.

MY TRICK AND TREAT SWAP PACKAGE FROM MINDY

What a lovely trick and treat package I received from Mindy. AND I received it on Halloween. It was getting late in the day and I decided to have a nap. By that time I didn't think anything would be delivered or I would get my package before Halloween was over. I don't think my eyes were closed very long when the phone rang calling from downstairs and it was the postal delivery truck with a parcel for me. That woke me for a while. When I opened the outer mailing package inside was the cutest gory Halloween bag and inside were lots of goodies. At first I thought the trick was that there was candy stuck in the ends of the yarn but I realised after what the trick was. Mindy send me Lamb's Pride black yarn to knit and felt into a witch's black cauldron which I will now do next Halloween. There was also the "trick" which was how to make a magic potion in the cauldron. There was candy, three sets of earring, a little rubber ducky dressed as a witch, and a very interesting sounding read called Witch Miss Seeton a Miss Seeton Mystery by Heron Carvic. An author I never heard of. Inside it says "This is not so much black comedy as black-currant comedy...you can't stop reading. Or laughing" I am looking forward to reading this book. AND here are some photos of my gifties.

AND of course here is my Solara trying to get into the action. LOL

Treats all the way from Norway!

I got my T&T swap package from Vigdis today. Talk about some awesome treats! I got some of her specialty hand-dyed yarn, in a beautiful orange. She also sent some black, white, and pumpkin superwash yarn, a copy of "Britain's Best seller-Simply Knitting" (very cool to have a magazine from a different part of the world!), and a pattern book of Norwegian style mittens and socks. It is all written in Norwegian and I can't read it, so I am sure it is my trick. Fortunately a good friend of mine at church is from Norway, so with any luck she might be able to help me figure out the basics. There was also some yummy chocolates that I will be happy to share with Hubband.
